We went to a Lexus demo drive two months ago. They were highlighting the new LS 460 (short and long wheelbase). Yes, the park assistant is very neat. Yes, it is a huge improvement over the LS 430. Yes, it looks a lot better than the LS 430.
Then we did some test drives! The first car was a LS 460L. Very nice interior. Great power. Smooth and quiet. It felt a little heavy around the turns, but a nice car. Next was the BMW 750Li. Much more basic on the inside. Terrible I-Drive. Better seats than the Lexus. Comparable power. Feels much lighter and more nimble through the cones. It beats the Lexus in performance, but I like the Lexus for ergonomics and overall interior feel. Then came the S550. No comparison! As soon as you sit inside, it screams "LUXURY" "QUALITY" "PERFECTION". The shifter is strange. The power is great. The suspension is phenomenal. The car does not feel heavy like the Lexus. The car glides through corners, but gives you enough feedback to keep you out of trouble. The LS 460L is very impressive (better than S500). The BMW is a driving machine and you feel it. The S550 is perfection (beats the BMW in driving feel and the Lexus can't compare in quality)

I have a 2003 S500. I am currently shopping for a new car and looking at the new S and the new BMW 7. Believe it or not. I have one complaint about the S. The trunk is too small. I have two small children and I can barely fit everything in. I had a 2002 745i. I do love them both. But I can't decide. Oh and the visibility is better in my body style then the new one. But I am sure that I can get used to it!
Check out the Maserati Quattroporte or the Bentley Continental Flying Spur. Also simply fantastic.

It's not in a class, is it? I mean, why compare a $120,000 S-class to a $60,000 Lexus? Or, in the case of the AMG, let's say it's a $200,000 S-class.
It better be darn good, but it's not really competing with anything except moderation.

I love the new S-class. Its defintaley the best luxuary car out right now besides the maybach. The new motor also has some serious power out performing its competitor the 745.
