If you are referring to the Civil Rights Activist/Writer, Alice Walker, then there is so much truth in her statement...just view the world from the outside looking in, and ask yourself the question: "What work needs to be done."

A response to that statement is within the question that was inquired:

"I agree, there is much work to be done as the world seems to go in so many unwarranted directions. Poverty within our third world nations, and even within our American nation, it's just focusing on one thing at a time...."

or

"Yes, there is much work to be done. Especially, in regards to our youth. I am noticing babies having babies becoming more of a trend, children being neglected, grandparents raising their grandchildren, homeless children working the streets for a bite to eat...yes, there is much work to be done."

or

"Life is truly a gift and for those of us who are still living, we can start working on improving our society one problem at a time...."

Good luck to you and be Safe...(smiles)

If one understands the real work then yes it is a good time to be alive. The thing is we never die. Only the body dies, We are not these material bodies, ie; race, color, nationality, religion, mind, intellect, senses, job, etc. We are eternal spirit souls, Part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Vishnu, Jehovah, etc. We will always be alive we will just be in differant circumstances in our next life. We should prepare for our next life as we work in this life. What ever we do is preparing our next destination.(karma) One has to understand karma and reincarnation to get the big picture. go to krishnaculture. for details.Read Bhagavad Gita as it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada- this will give one the knowledge to understand all things in life and our pupose as well.

It isn't really work if you enjoy what you do. Any time is a good time to be alive. Who want's to be dead rotting away and haunting people out of boredom or reincarnating as one of the kfc chickens only to die again or stagnating in purgatory while all of your good friends are riding around in silver lined clouds or burning in the depths of hell....sorry, I didn't mean to ramble. Have a good day.

as opposed to the time of being dead and nothing to do? What about the slackers? Wouldn't this be a terrible time to be alive?

"For the Lesser as for the greater there is some deed which He may accomplish; but only once, and in that deed His heart shall rest"
From "Silmarillion" By J.R.R. Tolkien

Then having said that, say this: Hi there !
