I bought a 250 GB Hitachi SATA Hard Drive and intalled it in my computer. It has a Biostar P4M80-M4 Motherboard and my operating system is Windows XP Service Pack 2. I have updated the BIOS to recognize big hard drives and it does recognize my 250 GB drive, but when I start Windows it only detects half, 127 GB. What could be the problem, does Windows require some settings or drivers that I should install?

yes, you need to enable biglba on windows. theres a full article explaining that on http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geuvLCzJ1Fu84ALxRXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTE3NTdnMWp1BGNvbG8DZQRsA1dTMQRwb3MDMQRzZWMDc3IEdnRpZANNMDAyXzEwNQ--/SIG=12kde28cj/EXP=1168055874/**http%3a//support.microsoft.com/default.aspx%3fscid=kb;en-us;303013

Execute fdisk.exe in DOS mode and create a single partition with all space on the hard drive (or if you want to have more than 1 partitions, make sure each partition is smaller than 128GB.
Biostar P4M80-M4 Motherboard must also support 48-bit LBA.

I was just going to say, make sure you have service pack 2 installed, and you stated that you do. You may only have 127GB partitioned off. Did you install the drive and OS or, did you have someone install it for you?

It could be that the drive is partitioned in half. You need to repartition it. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309000 delete the partitions on the drive, and then make only one partition for the whole size of the drive. Then format it using ntfs. Your problem is almost definitely this.

Check the jumpers on the drive. It's probably jumpered to "size limit". SATA drives don't have jumpers for master/slave but they often DO have jumpers to limit the size of the drive. If you have SP2 you have 32 bit LBA so windows should be all set.

it is going to set up homestead windows xp merely high quality, and there's a registry replace to repair the misreading of the hard disk drive length (i think of it is secure inone ofr the provider packs. So, set up XP, run the updates, all would be stable.
