I would pick your sister. Then all your other friends wouldn't feel like you liked someone better than another. They would understand why you picked your sister.

Hopefully you have understandng friends. But either way, when you announce you only want your sister in your wedding party, be humble and appeciative of their friendship, but explain you want to keep your wedding low-key and simple. Most people these days will understand that. Thank them for being wonderful friends and perhaps, even give them a toast at the wedding honoring their friendship in your life. On the upside for them, being a bridesmaid can be very expensive - wedding gifts, bachelorette party, bridal shower, bridesmaid dress and accessories - you just saved them a lot of money!

You can - just explain to your friends you decided on a small wedding party. If ANYTHING - this will be easier for you. . .having too many bridesmaids will be crazy. . .I'll probably go through the same thing when I get engaged, and I might just have my sister and my cousin.
Good luck, your friends will understand, and Congratulations!

I hate to tell you, but someone's going to be hurt no matter what you do. You decide what will make you the happiest. My sister picked my to be her matron of honor, and two of her friends to be bridesmaids. By the day of the wedding, she kicked out the other two girls and we got into a fight just before she walked down the aisle!! Bottom line, it's your day, don't let others pressure you into doing what is considered "right" or "tradition"

I would choose my sister as my bridesmaid because it would be a special connection between you two. Your friends will understand that family does come first. They should be happy just to attend the ceremony/reception.

I just got married also and only wanted one. However, my husband had to have 3 mates in the wedding. I then felt I had to choose 2 other friends to keep the numbers even. It all worked out fine on the day but cause me immense stress. One of the gilrs I chose complained non-stop about the costs involved and same with the guys wives. I felt like telling them all where to go. My advise therefore is, if you only want one, have one. It's your day and you should be able to do whatever you want. Good luck with it all!! :-)
