Safety is the biggest difference

With IE 6 & 7 it is very easy to steal your ID

Both IE 6 & 7 rely on ActiveX for some features to work, although in the new IE it is not turned on by default, it is still integrated in the browser and could be a security risk. Without ActiveX some features may not work properly in IE 6 & 7
Here is what Microsoft has to say about ActiveX in Internet Explorer

"An ActiveX control can be an extremely insecure way to provide a feature...From the moment a user downloads an ActiveX control, the control may be vulnerable to attack..."
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/workshop/components/activex/security.asp
(Firefox does not have or need ActiveX at all)

Firefox also supports webstandards much better than IE 6 & 7

Here is rundown by c/net

All these other reviewers agree with c/net that Firefox is the all around better browser

Firefox is a no frills browser. It leaves out most of the junk you really don't need. I love Firefox

IE7 is a big copy of Firefox, theres no major "specs" differences but IE7 is more compatible with Windows and Windows Live applications, although I like Firefox better .

Hope it helps
