really as good as friends as the movie Tombstone implies? Apparently there was another movie with Kevin Costner that wasn't nearly as good but my friend said that Doc died before Wyatt could tell him how much he cared. I've googled biographies on them both but they don't really mention how close they were. I saw Tombstone & I loved the movie but it never said if either of them had children. Does anyone know? Thanks in advance for an info

I don't know about their family life only that for real they were good
friends. Doc would back Wyatt anytime.

Earp -- He went on to do good work as a Federal marshall for many years. Half the West got tamed by Earp. Holliday was a fine and bold man with an effective combat style. He was in his prime at the OK corral. He was sickly after that. You never mess with either one of these guys -- for sure. But my preference -- Earp -- long live the name and long live the glory.

If I can add to GG Alan Alda's answer; Wyatt was not even as lily white as the movie portrayed. Much of what we know about Wyatt Earp (at least the early to mid 1900's versions) came from his widow, who made sure that Wyatt's legacy was portrayed in a much more positive light. Wyatt easily slipped back and forth over the line between the good guys and the bad guys when it suited his purpose...which was to mostly get rich. In the process he got his brothers shot and maimed.

There were a lot of stretched truths in that movie though it's real for the most part.

Virgil Earp was a closer friend to Doc than the movie portrays. He may have been closer to him than Doc was to Wyatt.

They were best of friends and neither one had any children. I really loved Tombstone and didn't care about the other one either.
