I am under eighteen, so I don't know how much damage someone can do but I am afraid that in the long run something might happen. What can I do to prevent anything like that FROM happening?

They can ruin your credit, by getting loans and utilities activated with your SSN. (If they get caught they go to jail, but you'll have problems trying to get your credit back.) What bad credit means to you, is that you will have problems getting loans, pay higher insurance rates, and will be paying tons of money in interest charges since you won't qualify for lower rates.

Yes, you can protect yourself by not giving your SSN to anyone who is not a major player in the utilities and finance companies. (Oh, and your employer.) Put items which contains this and other personal information in safe places. If it is trash, don't just throw it away, shred it before you put it in the trash.

Young Lady Never ever give out your Social security number .
On the back of every social security card it says" not to be used as a form of identification'.
You do not every have to surrender your SS# to any one, PERIOD!
If you do some some has just gotten over on you, stupid you.
