I had that problem with my old gamecube.. It was the first edition version.. It wouldn't read my action replay disc EVER then it wouldn't read my resident evil 4 disc.. then nothing.. The eye got damaged [worn out from use]

It's can't be fixed... rather it can by spending a crap load of money on sending it to the company and having them take months to fix it.. were you could just buy a cheap replacement.. .. or the Wii as it plays all gamecube games.

You COULD goto nintendo's official websites and send an e-mail.. .. but I did and it took FOREVER to get a reply so more then likely your machine is dying.. It not recongizing a game is usually the first sign... But then again.. if this game you are attempting to play is brand new [ie just came out recently or has zero scratches on it] then your system [if it's an older model.. not the silver ones which are new] will have a very hard time recognizing it.. I suggest opening the top, let it load to the G screen, pop the disc in and SPIN it just a quick flick with your finger and slam the lid down.. I know it causes some scratches and isn't reccomended but if nothing is working I ALWAYS did that and it worked for my gamecube.

Then again.. The disc could be so severely scratched that the eye just can't scan it anymore... And so you'll have to throw it out and rent it.
Good luck

That disc is probably scratched. It happened to my Animal Crossing game.
