I had color about three months ago and now I don't. I am almost 50 yrs old and find this slightly alarming. It's only on one side.

The color of an areola is related to genetics and depth of skin coloring. It is not unusual to find very pale, almost non-existant coloring, in the areolas of true blondes.

Btw, did you know that you can have areolas darkened now? The process is called micropigmentation and is similar to the process used by tattoo artists.

just different color skin pigmentation... some girls areolas are nearly black, and I've seen some fuscia colored ones before, on a phillipino girl.. I mean like rose colored purple/pink, crazy!
I'm guessing you have camo nips... where the nipples almost match the skin color of the rest of the breast... usually these areolas are quite large and the nipple tends to not stick out very far... nothing wrong with that, that's hot!
your nipples also get darker when you get pregnant too.
