The "planet" Pluto did not explode. It does exist, however scientist have recently concluded that Pluto is not a "planet" after all. But could in the future be grouped into what will be called dwarf planets.

Pluto still exists, it's just not considered a planet anymore. Y'see, on August 24, 2006, astronomers finally defined "planet," and Pluto doesn't fit. Rather than change the definition, or make exceptions to the definition, they reclassified Pluto. It is now a "dwarf planet." Actually, scientists may finally decide that Pluto and it's satellite Charon may be binary dwarf planets, if they ever get around to formally defining "binary dwarf planets."

Edit: Pluto is still "Pluto," but it is also designated (134340) Pluto in the Minor Planet Center catalog.

The "planet" Pluto no longer exists but Pluto still exists as a dwarf planet. Scientists determined that Pluto should no longer be a planet because of its tiny mass and its very eccentric orbit. The eccentricity of the orbit is 0.25 which means that it orbits around the Sun in an oval shape. Other causes for the decision include the fact that Pluto is tidally locked with its moon Charon. This means that both bodies of mass orbit each other because they are both pulling strongly on one another. Finally, Pluto has failed to clear out most of the debris in its orbital path. All of the remaining eight planets are massive enough that all of the dust and debris that was in the orbital region was cleared out by the pull of each of the planets.

The only real arguments for Pluto to be a planet are that it possesses a moon and it has rounded itself out.

No, Pluto did not explode and it still exists. It's just not one of the main planets anymore. It's a dwarf planet.

It didn't go anywhere. Some idiot decided that it's no longer a planet. It's now classified as a dwarf planet.

Funny, didn't we just use planet as the noun and dwarf as the adjective? It's still a planet!
