So are there still girl groupies that get to go backstage and party with the band closeup?
I keep wondering if all that talk is just that, talk. Or do you think these bands are "sowing their oats" so to say?

Oh My are you kidding . There sure is. I noticed even for local band s they always have groupies hangin around and the are not just freinds of the band. I have seen this at a few concerts that i have gone to also

Yes, there definitely is.
I took my son to a Buzz Bake Sale and the groupies were very apparent afterwards.
PS I was not yet old enough where the music was too loud
