Its a true original American Icon, one of the three biggest doft drink flavors (coke and pepsi are both colas, and split most all "cola" drinkers between them.)
Dr Pepper has a "rebel" or "individualistic" reputation which fits well with the Western American ideal of of rugged individualism.
I can tell you that there is nothing in the world like the taste of a TRUE "Dublin Dr Pepper". Bottled in Dublin, TX, its the only soda still made with pure cane sugar instead of the corn syrups used almost exclusively everywhere else. The flavor is more intense than the corn-sweetened products.
Also, try heating Dr. Pepper in a sauce pan until about the temperature of hot chocolate, squeeze in some lemon juice and drink hot. Its a winter warm-up unequalled on this planet.
Sorry if it doesn't suit your tastes.

Actually, I love Dr. Pepper. Then again, I'm Irish.
Dr. Pepper actually tastes the very same as cherry Coke, which I love too. Most people I know can't stand it.

Because it's tasty in the US. Soft drink companies do not have the same mixes for each country that they are marketed in. Coke and Pepsi and everything else will taste different in different countries too. The US just has a better Dr Pepper mix.

As a kid, on a hot summers day, I bought a can of Dr Pepper. 1st sip was a shock horror taste. 2nd sip to check I wasn't imagining how bad it was. Then in the bin.
From that moment on I decided that I might not be able to fully trust Americans in the future due to their promotion of such a terrible drink.

I from the UK and love Dr Pepper! Only problem is its hard to find but I would rate it way above coke and Pepsi. Not my first choice tho as I drink Lucozade orange as it does you good and it rocks! Second would be iron bru but Dr Pepper is third, actually no its behind traditional lemonade so 4th....maybe, hmm ok I dont love it but I like it!
