Follow the link below to an article that identifies and describes the Princeton Review's ranking of the ten most beautiful college campuses in the US.
Pepperdine
Princeton
Sweet Briar
Agnes Scott
Sewanee
Mount Holyoke
Scripps
Kenyon
Loyola Marymount
UC Santa Cruz
I've been to four of these campuses, and they definitely belong on the list.
As to colleges that look like Branford College at Yale (where the show is filmed), I'd say Princeton, Vassar, Bryn Mawr, Smith, Mount Holyoke, Dartmouth, and Wellesley are all very similar in setting and architecture.

I actually heard that New Haven is not that great a city, although I've never actually been to the campus. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't tape the show at Yale. I go to Brown and know that it's nothing like the college Summer goes to (The OC reference).
I think you should look at several colleges that offer the courses or research opportunities that you want. Then visit the campuses and decide where you see yourself fitting in.

Yale's campus isn't too bad -- but New Haven is not a place where I would ever want to live.
The most beautiful campuses that I have seen are (in no particular order):
Dartmouth
Duke
Villanova
Princeton
University of North Carolina
University of Virginia
Emory
Some colleges that aren't so bad -- given that they are located in an urban area:
Harvard
University of California at Berkeley
University of Pennsylvania
Columbia
Georgetown
University of Texas
Yale
Some colleges that are good schools, have a few pretty spots, but are basically ugly urban schools:
NYU
University of Michigan
University of Minnesota
MIT
Drexel University
And finally -- the ugliest university that I have ever seen -- and isn't even that good a school:
St John's University (the one in NY).

No campus is like that. It's a television show and therefore not realistic. No college is that quaint, or squeaky clean. Get in touch with reality.
