I know tetras will not eat live plants. Because you don't want to spend a lot of money, I highly recommend hydracoytl. (I hope I spelt that correctly). It is a fast growing plant that grows like a weed and is in constant need of a trimming. If you buy about half, or a third of what you think you will need to cover areas of your tank, within a month it will cover what you wanted it to completely. As well, hydocoytl has roots coming out of the STEM all the way up the plant. Because of this you can cut it (always 3+ ;leaves from the top) and replant the cutting easily. It is almost impossible to kill.

Good luck with your tank!

Balas and tetras should be fine with your plants. You'll want to find plants that will survive in your water and that depends greatly on the hardness and pH of your water.

Make sure you get that tested before you buy any plants, and then buy plants suitable for your water.

The easiest live plants to grow are java moss, java fern, wisteria, anacharis, and hornwort. These are all very hardy plants that do not need expensive lighting, ferts, CO2, ect.

With a tank that vast, you should empty it completely. attempt to save as lots water as you could. a great new trash can could artwork. do no longer fill it too complete, water weighs 8.8 lbs. consistent with gallon. bypass on your close by fish keep (LFS) and tell them what you're doing. they could provide you some fish luggage, or sell them to you decrease priced. i offered some and paid 3 cents each and each for them. in case you're in basic terms shifting during city, you will have not have been given any problems with the way long they are interior the luggage. Use their tank water and fill the luggage in basic terms one third complete. Have somebody carry the bag open while you internet your fish out of the tank. Take each and all of the decorations out first, it makes it lots easier to capture them. additionally, a great internet makes it easier too. while they are interior the bag, blow air into the bag and positioned a rubber band around the final of the bag like they do on the LFS. attempt to maintain them coated up for the holiday. each and all of the lighting fixtures furnishings and shadows will reason them very lots of rigidity. a mind-blowing thought is to place them in plastic grocery luggage so as that they do no longer grow to be terrified. once you get on your new domicile, positioned despite water you saved interior the garbage can into the tank and pick the flow your fish luggage in it to equalize the temp. in case you do no longer save any water, make confident your filter out does not dry out in any respect. there's most of the beneficial micro organism you will ought to recycle your tank in there. in any different case, you will face 2-3 weeks of the nitrogen cycle in the previous it somewhat is up and working nicely back.

having plants is very involved... You need correct lighting and substrate.. and water chemistry... You'd need to do a lot of research.. although there are a few plants that is sooo easy to take care of and don't need special anything.

i'd recommend, java ferns, java moss and hygrophilia polysperma. They'll grow really slow but they won't die on you.
