A while ago me and a couple of my friends where hanging out on another friends backporch. Her Aunt had came out to talk to us. we started playing this game "what are you mixed with" (stupid game if you ask me). It all started because one of my friends, friends had came over and the aunt was like " wow, your really pretty. wat are you mixed with?" then she went around the group asking everybody else what they were mixed with, most of the group were mixed with black and something else and light skinned, including me. except for my two closes friends, who when asked lied and said there were black and latina. Which you could tell they weren't. Then she got to me and said "what are you, black?" Like I was the ugliest of the bunch, like I was too ugly to be mixed, it was like she was saying full black people weren't pretty. When she was full black her self!
can some explain why this women would say something like this? I have low selfesteem so it really hurt me, I cried when I got home!

I don't know if that particular woman meant anything bad, but i have heard plenty of non-black and black people also insinuate that 100% black women aren't attractive.

Everyone has their preferences and opinions, but I personally, don't think that is true. I know a lot of women who have 2 black parents, not mixed at all, and are absolutely gorgeous. I, in fact, am 100% black, and I like to think i am easy on the eyes.

That lady, if she did truly mean what she insinuated, probably suffers from self-hatred and doesn't even realize it. I'm sure you're a very good-looking young girl, you just haven't realized it yet because you're comparing yourself to someone else's standard of beauty.

Don't do that sweetheart, don't let other people's perception destroy your self-esteem. Who cares what the media and other people think about black women and beauty, no matter your racial make-up, your inner beauty is most important, and 9 times out of 10, people will recognize that, and be wholly convinced you are beautiful through and through.

I wouldn't worry about it. Sometimes people lose politeness as they ask members of a group the same question. Have you ever met a bunch of people at once, and the first person you say, "I'ts wonderful to meet you!" and by the time you get to the fifth or sixth you're like, "Whassup."

I'm sorry that it hurt you; but that's kind of the rough thing about having low self esteem- it's easy to chalk up people's reactions to negativity, when they might have not meant it at all. Plus, this lady might have issues about herself that would have prompted her to value mixed people more or something, who knows? Hey, people say hurtful things in life- it's our job to take it in stride.

Good luck, beautiful! =)

It's a fair question to ask, I suppose?
But it sounds like you may be a little overly sensitive to this topic. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and it is truly only skin-deep.

Ugly is a state of mind, and jealously is the ugliest state of mind there is.

You are right to avoid this disease like the plague.

Don't worry, I have seen plenty of black women that are total knockouts. I don't worry about race, a beautiful woman is that, no matter what she is, and personality matters just as much or more.

Full black people usually aren't pretty. Now everyone rush to rate this answer negatively but it's the most honest answer you'll ever get. The attractive "black" women in Hollywood like Tyra Banks and Holly Berry aren't even 100% black.

100% blacks usually have nappy hair and have a slight odor. I have a 100% black friend and she's real nice but no one would ever want to date her. She's been single for 14 years.
