I now shoot by form shooting and i have a very good mid range jumper but for some reason i am not good at shooting freethrows. i have no clue why i have been form shooting for atleast 6 months and i still can hit freethrows consistenty. Any help would be appreciated because i play point guard and i need to be a good free throw shooter, and if you know any drills or execerises i should do.

develop a consistent routine to do over and over again and take your time

if you want you can put your pointer finger on the ball's airhole to center the ball and then just bend your knees and aim just over the rim and make sure you follow through

develop a routine you feel comfortable with and shoot freethrows over and over again and then you can play games with it to make hypothetical crunch time situations where you need to make the freethrows and if you miss you have to run laps or something

end a practice with atleast 10 makes in a row and keep your confidence up

When every you shot a free throw make sure you watch the front of the rim. Block out any everything in the gym and focus on the rim. Also focus on using good form and take your time. Make sure your elbow is right in front of the middle of the rim. Watch the rim because you would want the ball to go there. A exercise that you can do is to lay on the ground or on something that is flat. Use a ball basketball or something that is a ball. Throw the ball up not to high but in the middle. If you do that and the ball comes right back from to the place u shot it from then that is perfect, but if it didn't then u need to work more at it. I did this and all the stuff i just said when i shoot free throws and it is hard for me to miss.

Ok, I've won freethrow contests, all you have to do is practice. I would stay outside all day for around 8 hours shooting. I am 5'6" maybe I have a good eye, I don't know. But just practice, concentrate, don't jump.

Find a routine, stick to it. Make sure it feels comfortable and go thru that routine every time. What I did was, 1)step to the line2)dribble the ball three times3)spin the ball in my hands and find the laces with my fingers4)bend my knees and follow thru. Just get a routine and work on it

3 years ago i shot a ridiculous 26% from the line...thats the truth...i made difference in my shot and now i shoot 87%(not great, but a vast improvement) You just have to remember to end on your toes and hold your follow through

Aim right above the rim, not at the rim, and make sure your mind is empty and you are relaxed. try using the airhole for aim .Remember if you aim at the rim you wil hit the rim. Aim right above so the ball goes in due to your arc. .

start a routine before each shot. your inconsistancy is probably mental. just do a little routine before you go up like bounce the ball once or twice before every shot. it works for me

practice practice practice. aim for a spot on the ceiling and throw the ball to that spot. over and over and over. when you go to a new gym, find a new spot in that gym.
