the standard form would be f(x)=6x^4 - 3x^3 + 1x^2 + 0x + 17,

There would be five coefficients; 6, -3, 1, 0, and 17.

The coefficients are also called the constants of the polynomial.

The complete form is

6x^4 - 3x^3 + 1x^2 + 0x + 0

A coefficient is a number in front of the 'x'.

So there are 4 coefficients: 6, -3, 1, and 0. =)

The coefficient is the number that comes before the variable (or letter). Therefore the coefficients are:
-3, 1,3

This is a fourth order equation because the highest power on x is 4.
