Why am I not surprised with some of your answers. If you look at history, nothing was done to other mean leaders. So, why the double standard ?

Do some of you really believe that no other leaders are doing worst than him ? They are only "slightly" smarter than Saddam and Bush just can't get through them. Anyway, a lot of people from all over the world are watching and laughing .. that's all. Execution is easy, but what comes next ... watch and see. Wish that US is more FAR SIGHTED, that's all. Just like most of the decisions made, it had been mistakes, mistakes and mistakes again. When will this stop. I wonder.

There are very few (if any) dictators in the whole world who are worse than Saddam. Look at what he did:
1) Attacked his own people (Kurdish minority) using a weapon of mass destruction (poison gas)
2) Invaded his neighbor (Kuwait) with no provocation.
3) While being kicked out of Kuwait, he effectively tried to bring about World War III by attacking (again without provocation) another neighboring country (Israel).
4) After signing a truce to end the war, he repeatedly violated nearly every provision of the truce, including no-fly-zones and weapons inspections.
5) He sponsored a terrorist attack on the life of a former US President, George H. W. Bush.
To top it all off, he heads a country in a politically important region of the world. The US is the most powerful country in the world, but we can't fix every single problem. Therefore, you may be able to get away with being a dictator of a tiny south american country and don't bother anyone else, but if you screw up over and over again like Saddam, the US is going put you in the grave. That's how it should be.
Read more about the life of this malevolent dictator at the Wikipedia article below.
PS - as to your comment "I am chinese, but does not mean that I'm from China. This show's the limited perception that many american people have to the outside world, AGAIN.":
That was not very polite. You said you are Chinese, not Chinese-American or Chinese-French or anything else. Therefore, based upon what you told us yourself, you are likely either from China or most strongly identify with China. Therefore, remarks about China's internal and exteranl policies are perfectly relevant.
As for your remark about "limited perception", if you are so smart, then why are asking this question on a message board? If you know all the answers then go out there and fix the world yourself. Stop insulting people and wasting their time.

Firstly, Iraqis sentenced Saddam to death, not the US government.
Secondly, are there really "far worse leaders in the world than Saddam"?
There are not many leaders in the world today who can boast his infamous record of tyrannical rule.
Read the answer of John G and others if your unconvinced.
Really.
What difference does it make if Saddam was #1 or #52 on the "World's craziest dictators" list?
Does Saddam need to meet a set criteria before he is considered evil enough?
Does he have to pass an evil exam before people recognise that he should be removed from power?
The situation is clear. There is no moral crisis.
Saddam was a brutal monster. His downfall was of his own doing. He was executed in accordance to Iraqi law.

Have patience.
We have only just begun to try and bring these oppressive, nut bag countries into the 21st century.
We had to start someplace, and if we had started in another country, you would be asking why we didn't get Saddam first.......
Like I said...have patience.

Saddam violated the terms of the UN agreements after the Kuwait invasion. He supported terrorists - providing $10,000 payments to families of suicide bombers in Israel and the US, maybe other countries as well. It was believed internationally that he had WMDs. Our country legitimately believed he would provide them to terrorists to use against us if he had the opportunity. Plus, he killed 100s of thousands of his OWN people. Why shouldn't we worry that he wouldn't kill us too if he had the chance?

Wow...reading all of your answers I can't help but be turned off by all this racism! Welcome to America!!?!?!
And as for your question, I think it was because they couldn't catch any one else in a spider hole. He did kill thousands of people though, so his death is still justified.
Take care.
