I've missed 2 periods and today is the first time my hcg showed up, doc says i'm 6wks. Glad to have a positive test, he said the line was faint but it was there. Little anxious will it show up on the blood test now that it shows up in the urine? Also my appointment was late in the day and i drink alot of water he said it could have been diluted. Nervous

It's not that the blood test is stronger, but it can be quantitative rather than qualitative. That is, a urine test -- whether a home test or one at the doctor's office -- gives a simple "yes/no" answer; if it detects hcg in your urine it comes up positive. With a blood test, a doctor can measure the amount of hcg; while any number greater than 5 means "you're pregnant," doctors look at the doubling rate of hcg to determine whether it's likely a healthy pregnancy. Since you missed 2 periods and it's really unclear when you ovulated/conceived, the doctor can also look at the number to guesstimate how far along you may be (nothing would be visible yet by ultrasound if it's really early; the numbers will also clue your doctor in as to whether an ultrasound would be informative at this point). How your doctor came up with "6 weeks" based on a qualitative beta that's faint after two missed periods is absolutely beyond me.

Good luck.

The blood test is almost always a stronger indicator that a HPT. If it's enough to show up in your urine, even faintly, then it's enough to show up in a blood test - after all, the hormone in the blood is how it GETS into the urine to begin with :-)
