I'll sleep fine...it's when I'm awake that I have to live that nightmare.

Despite what you think of her she is a trial blazer. Imagine that in this day and age their is still a woman doing something for the first time - especially in government. She is fair - has her own money and does not need to be in any one's pocket. She was affected at a young age by JFK - can't be a bad thing. She is also the first Italian American to hold such an esteemed position. This is America - leave if you don't like it.

Not going to be much change, I'm afraid. The Dems will probably raise the minimum wage, but they don't want to address any of the real complicated issues.
There's not much they can do in Iraq, and quite frankly...I don't think they want to touch that issue. Iraq's a mess, and if they get involved at all...they'll have to share some of the blame. If they refuse military funding, for example, they'll be accused of not supporting the troops. I think they want to just let Bush dangle in his own mess.
I also don't think they'll go after any of Bush's tax cuts. They don't want to be blamed for raising taxes, especially with a Presidential election coming up in 2008. (Look for taxes to be raised IMMEDIATELY if a Democratic President is elected.)

Actually...

Yes, yes I will, if only a little bit.

I think she'll do a great job, although 1- different politicians aren't going to change EVERYTHING and 2- I won't sleep THAT MUCH better until we get rid of Bush and Cheney.

NO. You would be better off to remember, she is speaker of the house. Bush is the President.
She's the one that must toe the line, if she doesn't want him to veto every bill she puts before him.

I'm just glad its one more big step for women. Seems most people here have forgotten what is was like to be told you can't have the job you want because it ISN'T available for women. It's good to see women stepping up in politics.
