Women have their tubes tied in the hospital. It used to be an overnight stay, I am sure now, it is done as an outpatient which means you go in and have it done and go home. Men have always had their tubes in their scrotums cut in the Drs office.

I think we should clear up another old fashioned word. Your
tubes do not really get tied! I do believe this used to happen
many ages ago...but for quite a few years now, this has been
a simple procedure called TUBAL LIGATION. The easiest
way to do this is right after delivering a baby. A small incision
is made just below the belly button and about a 1" section is
cut out of each fallopian tube. I can't remember if the cut ends are clamped or if they are left open for the eggs to be re-absorbed by the body.
If the woman is not pregnant. there is a small incision made
directly over both tubes, and the same procedure done.

I can't believe why the other lady who answered your question
had such a horrible time except that she really had a horrible doctor. I'm particularly fond of female OB/byns because I
feel they better understand a woman's physiology and pain.

My mom had hers done at the hospital and she stayed over night. That was a while ago though, so I'm not sure how it works now. But it is done at the hospital. I guess it all depends on whether you stay over night or not.

well I had mine done like 7 yrs ago and My Dr.said she was going to do it through the belly button that is the new way, well when I woke up I had a Big patch over my inscion ,I was really to groggy to know I went home and when I was able to check my inscion out it was about 5 inches long like I had a hysterectomy!!! It hurt so bad and then the pain medicine I was on It ended up I was allergic to it and then I couldn't pee and had to go to the Hosp and get catheterized ,they took over a 1,000cc of urine and I had to wear a catheter for a couple of days they said I was lucky that my stomach din't burst. So when you get ready for your surgery make sure you find a really good Dr.The one I had is no longer practicing thanks heavens
