Check out the second amendment. What sense does it make to outlaw handguns? Seriously? The criminal is going to find another way to kill, whether that be with a knife or by illegally obtaining firearms. What then, outlaw knives? And what about the sale of illegal weapons that the feds will have to deal with even more than now? The only people it's going to hurt are the people that would carry one for self defense purposes.

A much simpler solution would be to put some real teeth in the laws we already have.
For instance, when a crime is committed with a firearm - make it an automatic federal offense with an automatic minimum sentence without parole. Real laws with real consequences are a damned good deterrent - we should try it sometime instead of letting slick lawyers get their obviously guilty, dirt bag clients off on technicalities and plea bargains.

I don't have any problems with people having and using guns. I like the sport of shooting. BUt I also feel it necessary to be able to have a gun in my home for protection. With people all whacked out on drugs the way they can be, sometimes the force of a basseball bat or the threat of a steak knife isn't enought o convince them that you don't want them there. With anything in this world, there are just some people that shouldn't have or shouldn't be doing...some people shouldn't be allowed to drive, others shouldn't be allowed to reproduce. There is nothing wrong with me being able to have a gun in my house. I know how to use them, and how to do so responsibly.

So are you proposing making knives, rocks, rope, shoestrings, and a whole host of other small concealable objects that can be used to kill someone should be banned?

Those that carry, carry concealed so as not to scare the sheep, not to increase the possibility of being a target from a wolf, and so they have the ability to fight back in an armed robbery situation.

Also, there have been murders done with cars, beer bottles, pillows, and with a person's bare hands.

I don't care if you illigize them just don't make them illegal. The guns aren't murderers. The criminals behind them are. Do you think if that law is passed that a thug on the street will turn in their gun? No but the honest law abiding future victim of a home invasion will. Handguns are carried as side arms for hunters. They are carried for defense . If a murder doesn't have a gun he will kill you with something else. It doesn't matter you are still dead.

No! We have a right to bear arms! If you start taking away people's rights, where will it end? Most of the people killing with guns don't have a license to own the gun anyways.

For the same reason...they're easily concealed, and can be a good source of protection against deadly assault, especially if you're a woman. If you learn to carry a concealed weapon, you have some control over your fate if you become the victim of a violent crime.

We need to deal with the real issue, which is the intent of the crime and deterring people from committing violent acts. Solving a problem in society by simply attempting to regulate the inanimate object is not the answer.

If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have them. Besides, most of the guns that are used for murders are not legally owned, anyway.
