Stay far far away from the Phoenix and Hawkeye models. These machines are not built by Polaris but are imported from China and badged as a Polaris product. The engine and transmission look like and are of the same design as those you see in all of these cheap scooters running around.

There is an issue with the transmission on both models that Polaris is not, or at least has not yet owned up to. They won't go into gear properly and can jump out of either forward or reverse while under a load. They also tend to grind badly while trying to get them into gear, even when the engine idle is properly set.

Polaris is whispering under their breath that it was only an issue with the '05 models and that the '06 and up machines are 'updated'. Trust me, the problem still exists and gets worse with time and usage.

The Trailblazer has been around forever and is basically unchanged from day one. The air cooled, piston port, non variable height exhaust valve engine is definitely old school. It has a pretty decent mid range punch, but very little on the bottom and signs off pretty quick once out of the mid-range. The suspension is... well it goes up and down. On the flip side, it's reliable as a rock and if not pushed to hard handles pretty decent for what it is.

If you go that route don't pay MSRP. They aren't in real high demand and most dealers have new left overs littering their showrooms.

I would avoid the pheonix, and go with the Trailblazer if those are the only two you are considering. Maybe you should try the Scrambler or the Predator. The Scrambler is going to weigh significantly less than the Sportsman, but still offer 4X4 and pretty good power while a Predator is the lightest full size Polaris ATV. The only thing you need to consider about the Predator is that it is a manual transmission where you must use a clutch and shift, while all other Polaris ATVs are automatics.

they go around 50-55 miles an hour, the trailblazer is a good machine, it weighs about 450 lbs, and would be considerably easier to throw around than the 700...I don't know much about the new 'pheonix', but I'd be guessing that it'd be caparable to the trailblazer. It all depends on what kind of riding you do.

i would go with a 350cc. going from a 700 to a 200 is a deficit of 500cc and that is a lot regardless of weight difference. i don't know if polaris makes a 350 but i know honda does.
