For laundry, a bleach alternative for 1 load is
1/2C laundry soap
1/4C borax
1/4C lemon juice or white vinegar, plus 6 drops lemon essential oil.

There's a great book called The Naturally Clean Home
by Karyn Siegel-Maier.

Its full of alternatives for cleaning using every day stuff.

For scrubbing stains I find that the new Mr. Clean magic erasers are great. No fumes, no soap, just water and they work really well especially the shower. VERY LITTLE EFFORT TOO. For laundry, try using straight peroxide on most stains, especially blood. Put on soon as possible, let soak couple minutes and launder as usual. Will work even if stain is dried(not in dryer). Removes MOST organic stains. Those oxygenated additives are good too. Oxy cleen and the likes.

A friend of mine who collects antique linens puts the white items out in the sun to "bleach out" the stains.

I use Tub and Tile from Melaleuca. Melaleuca makes non-toxic cleaners and they also have a pre-spot cleaner for laundry as well as many other cleaners. You can check out their website at www.melaleuca.com

I use Borax. I learned about its use when I lived in Salt Lake City. It really works too.
