I came here from China and all I knew of Americans was what I saw on TV. I'd see these peaceful non-violent black people, that lived in nice homes and spoke ENGLISH.
That is NOT the way it is. It's the exact opposite. I'm not racist I'm just saying the stereotypes of blacks on TV (i.e. kind, loving, non-violent) is NOT the way they actually are.
Has anyone else from another country had this experience?

You people trying to turn it around on us Chinese are missing the point. You didn't live around Chinese and see us do martial arts and say grasshopper all day. I HAVE SEEN BLACKS act violently even though the media portrays them as non-violent. Not ALL blacks are violent but many, MANY are.

Welcome to AMERICA my Chinese friend. Let me tell you this, if you really think an entire race are violent than you must over dosed one of your Chinese treatments you use as a herbs. Anyway, where in China can you express yourself like this and NOT GET ARRESTED. Trust me, Black people have no problem with you, you just scared of them because they look different than you, dress different than you, however that DOES NOT mean they can threaten you or harm you. It is just the DIFFERENCES OF OUR CULTURE. What you see a violent, is not really a VIOLENCE for us. You just misjudged the American culture once again. Do you think speaking English makes someone less violent and be more gentlemen?.. I think you need to revise the real world history, it was the English that were violent, killers, invaders, rapers, and DO NOT THINK speaking English gives you a higher class in society. I'm sorry America wasn't the picture perfect land you thought it was.
Perhaps you can send a message to all of the other countries that they shouldn't be judging America based on TV shows- most TV shows were made to entertain, not reflect real life. We live in real life, Americans love to live in a fantasy where problems are solved in 30 mins or less, and the majority of white men are doctors and high powered lexus driving blonde women, and blacks are either divas and rappers or drug dealing crack addicts. The truth is, there is no truth in TV...even the news has more spin on it than Paris Hilton's brain!

Ok, maybe that’s just the African Americans you live around... I, however, happen to be peaceful non-violent black person, that lives in nice home and speaks ENGLISH. I have seen many black people act like that, and I have seen many white, Asian, Hispanic, Indian, Native American people act like that. It's not just black people it’s everyone. And I’ve seen plenty of people act like their stereotypes... does that mean their whole race is like that? No.
For an example, the person above me... You can clearly see he's white. Some White Stereotypes are redneck, KKK, country, confederate flag loving people. Which isn't true, It can not be said about all white people.There's white people out there who love all races. I hope this has been of some help.

Dude come on man, don't judge an entire race just by a few people that you met since you have been here inthe US!
I can say the same thing for Chinese but I won't. There are blacks like the ones you see on TV. It maybe hard to believe but it is true. There are plenty of rich, educated, black people living in mansions and speaking "English".

Well, I'm Black, and i come from a "peaceful, non-violent home", lived in, what i would say, was a pretty nice house, and this may surprise you, but yes, we also spoke English.
To answer your question though, no, stereotypes about black people, or any race of people, are never 100% true.
Some of them maybe, but not all.

I am fourteen-years-old,but I know that judging people by their skin is WRONG.Blaming a whole race for one person's attitude shouldn't be a way to look at things.All races in America are stereotyped one way or another.I am African American,but I am not a violent,resentful person.I have friends of different nationalities,but my Asian friend wouldn't like it if I called them nerdy,or my Caucasian friend a hillbilly..It's wrong no matter who does it.You may have met someone like that(or maybe a few more),but don't jump the gun and condemn us all.

have you actually witness the behavior in person (black people being rude, mean and violent)? if not, then you should not say that black people are that way, unless you seen it up front. Yes there are good black people, the kind, non-violent people you saw on t.v., that lives in nice homes, that are not violent, then there are the ignorant, rude black people that you may have seen in person. I am pretty sure that there are rude, mean, and violent Chinese people, and yes I have seen them up front and dealt with them. Everyone of every race, and ethnic background have their share of good and bad people.
P.S. I am not being mean. I'm just keeping it real.

So exactly what are you saying? That black are indeed violent, unintelligent people who do not speak English? Then that would mean that Chinese people are short, only sell opium and eat babies, rice and rats!!!
U'r stereotyping just as well when your race is no better. Stop making yourself look stupid and stop watching tv and find out for yourself :)

So maybe all Chinese people are named Ling Wang, and they practice martial arts all day and say "grasshopper" a lot? Maybe they eat nothing but rice and bow to everyone as they pass by in their funnel shaped hats?

So does that mean that most Chinese belong to the Triad that sell opium and make their own countrymen and women work in sweatshops for less than minimum wage.
Every race have good and bad people.
