As more biomedical firms take their companies public to raise additional capital they fall under the trap of quarterly reports on the stock market, where shareholders who invest in the short term for bigger and bigger returns each year. The stock analysis people want to force these firms on giving up R & D spending because it speculative and detracts from the profit statements. They want to push that burden to the government sector where the tax payers pony up research dollars for medical breakthroughs using the NIH, NSF, and the CDC. These foundations will protect the Biomedical firms from getting hit at the NYSE if a R & D project falls through.

If it wasn't for medical research then we would still be guinea pigs to whoever decided that their medicine and healing methods worked. I am a believer of animal testing, but for medical use only. If all those years ago all those poor animals werent used to test out drugs, we wouldn't have medicines to fight off everyday things like coughs and headaches and also those animal rights protesters nay not even be here as I'm sure theyve taken medicine in their time that was originally tested on animals!
Modern technology has allowed life to develop at greater speeds since our ancestors used witchcraft and even using endangered animal parts so that we could all be here and expand our knowledge and thrive to be us dominant humans we are today!

Well, it's important because it keeps the doctors in their Porsches and the big pharmaceutical companies rich enough so that they can lobby our legislators into keeping alternative medicine in the shadows.
