People only remember things in terms of what they understand.

Example:

There was a cartoon short I once saw when I was a child, back before I could read. It involved a contest of strength in which one of the contestants chopped up a log, bare-handed, into a bunch of small sticks that landed in a box. That's exactly how I remembered it, vividly.

A few years later, after learning to read, I saw the same cartoon again. This time I could read the writing on the box - writing of whose existence I had no recollection. It said "clothes pins". This time around I saw the slots and heads on the small sticks and recognized them as obviously being clothes pins.

I realized then, from that incident, that I hadn't remembered the words or the sticks being clothes pins because I hadn't recognized or understood what they were. My memory of the previous watching was, however, very vivid and rather complete except for that point. (I was still young, of course, and wouldn't have described my realization quite this way. :) )

And I'm sure we've all had the experience of learning a new word and suddenly seeing and hearing it used seemingly everywhere.

So if your 16 and want to recall your past then you would be 32 when all is said and done. Also, with hypnosis, the hypnotist attaches to you subconsciously.

I am not exactly sure but Hypnotism might be helpful in recalling memories.
