Try a second-hand store.
The ones I've been to seem to have a fair whack of plus-size stuff, and, more importantly, a huge selection of brands. I completely empathise with "I saw nothing that I would ever wear, nobody could even pay me to wear half of the things they were selling." Maternity clothes are still badly designed and poorly made, and seems to be either still frumpy, or for teen-agers who want a lot of spandex. I'm having a rotten time finding just decent regular-sized stuff.
Maternity clothing, it seems, travels quite a bit. The second-hand stuff I've seen here comes from around the world, which means you'll be less reliant on North American polyester.
Try searching on-line for something like "natural fibre maternity clothes" rather than just "maternity clothes," too -- better quality results, I find. For example:
http://www.barefootmaternity.com.au/index.php?cPath=60
Not a huge selection of plus stuff, and not sure if they ship outside Australia, but that's a nice tasteful dress...
The Gap, if you're in the US or have a friend there who'll forward you the parcel, has okay stuff up to XXL...
Good luck!

I had the same problem. I wore a size 14/16 before I got pregnant, and I haven't found any maternity pants to fit me yet ... and I'm 34 weeks now! I found some nice things at Belk and JC Penney ... but I bought a few x-large shirts from the maternity section and now they're getting too tight around my boobs and are too short around my stomach! I also bought some athletic pants in the plus-size section of Target, which were super comfortable and actually look very neat with some long sleeved maternity shirts that I bought there also. I bought a few pairs of oversized low-rise jeans, so that the top sits below my stomach but isn't tight. I'm having a girl, and I'm experiencing the wonderful all-over weight gain, so those jeans weren't too big in the hips or butt either. My best luck has been over-sized regular clothes. Good luck!

Try looking at Target (though not online since they don't have a whole lot online). They have a pretty good sized maternity department.

I used to work for Addition-elle and many pregnant women would shop there. Their stuff is not as adjustable as some maternity clothing but it is pretty nice for business and dressy attire. They also have A&E Sport for sportier stuff.
Addition-elle and Thyme maternity are both owned by Reitmans.

Have you tried Old Navy? I'm not a plus size but I'm almost 6 ft tall and have trouble finding anything long enough. Especially dress pants... Old Navy seems to have some stuff for me, plus it is cute clothes at great prices!

both JCPenney and Target have maternity wear in store and online. The stuff at Target doesn't look too bad in the store, so check there first.
