Well, I do know that they say that women need to have their first child before age 30 because after they are less fertile. So that could be the reason if this is your first.
My parents were married two years before they had me; they were in their late twenties; my mom had me when she was thirty. Also, if you were taking any birth control methods before, that could influence.
Have patience and have fun, if you're both in good reproductive health, it's bound to happen sooner or later. Good luck, and lots of baby dust!

Yes, it is normal.
About 90 percent of healthy couples with no fertility issues will conceive within 12 months; about 10 percent of healthy couples with no fertility issues take longer than that.
There is not that great a chance, statistically, of conceiving in any given cycle. For a 30 year old woman, there is roughly a 15 percent chance of conceiving in any given cycle.
Generally, if you have been trying without success for 12 months a doctor will run tests to see if there's a problem (6 months if the woman is over age 35). Other than that, they'll tell you to keep trying and call back when 12 months have passed.
And marital status has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Yes it can be normal, I was told that generally after 1 year of trying on your own, a couple should seek help.
My advice would be to trying using the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM), a great resource in learning how to use it and provide you with monthly charts is Taking Charge of your Fertility by Toni Weschler. FAM can either be used to prevent unwanted pregnancy or also to help achieve pregnancy. The woman takes her morning temp, Checks her cervical fluid, and cervical position, and then puts them on a chart. By doing this you will know when to time intercourse based on the cervical position and the cervical fluid, and then based on the temp change you can determine if you ovulated. This method also can help you to figure out if you need medical help to conceive much sooner than a year as well as prevent unnecessary medical tests.
The book is absolutely great, it has a lot of very helpful information. I think it is a must have for every women, it really teaches you about your body and all the different aspects of your fertility.

If the woman is in her 30's then she has a 15% of getting pregnant each cycle. Most likely a woman in this age group will conceive within 9 months of trying.
