I just started renting an apt with a dish washer but I really don't know which DW detergent would work best. There are several out there and I need some advice on which is best. What do you use & are you happy with it? Thanks in advance for your advice!

Cascade is my favorite. You may have to sample a few brands, though, before you find out what works best in that dishwasher. Apartments typically put in the cheapest appliances they can get, so powdered detergents might not dissolve well and any detergent might leave your dishes spotty. My friend lives in an apartment and had that problem - she has to use the gel detergent with a rinse aid (such as Jet Dry) to get her dishes clean. I use a rinse aid in mine as well. I used to use Cascade brand, but I got a big bottle of Jet Dry at Costco for a lot less money per ounce and it works even better. If the dishwasher does not have a rinse aid dispenser in the door, you can get the balls that hang from the rack.

Cascade 2 in 1 Action Pacs or Cascade Complete.

Cascade 2-in-one packs or the Electrasol tabs--both worked well for me. I didn't like the gel detergents at all, it left things spotty and sometimes not totally clean. You can buy those little packs with the jet dry in them so your dishes come out looking great with little fuss.

I think Cascade individual little tablets are the best...and they have different scents, one is citrus, the other apple, etc. It not only cleans great but creates a nice aroma in the kitchen.
