well, start with what they lost. they bought 5 bags each worth $3.20-- that comes to a cost of $16.
if we can say each bag had 8 apples, and there were 5 bags, then there were 40 apples total, and 34 then were sold. if each was sold for $0.75, you multiply 34 times 0.75, and the money they made was $25.50. so 25.50 - 16 dollars initial loss, equals 9.5.

they made $9.50 in all for profits

Five bags * $3.20/bag = $16 total spent.

Average of 8 apples/bags gives a total of 40 apples.

40 - 6 - 34 were sold at 75 cents each, so they made 34 * .75 = $25.50

Therefore, 25.50 - 16 = $9.50 profit.

Profit = revenue - expense

Expense is $3.20*5 = $16

Revenue: Each bag held 8 apples, so 8*5 = 40 apples. 40-6 = 34 apples sold at $.75 = $25.50

So profit = $25.50 - $16 = $9.50
