The source for all weather is the sun. The sun does not heat all of the earth's surface equally because of the spherical shape of the earth. At the equator the energy received by the sun is much more uniform per square unit than any other part of the earth. This unequal heating results in pressure differences which results in "weather."

The sun is the primary driving force in all our weather. The sun heats up the water and creates water vapor. The water vapor will condense into clouds at the right temperatures in the atmosphere. The winds are driven around the earth by variations in temperatutes and pressures. The wind moves the clouds and when the moisture has condensed enough due to it's concentration and temperature, precipitation occurrs. The temperatures in the cloud and above the ground will determine whether it is rain, sleet, snow, etc.

Unequal heating of the earth's surface by the sun's rays causes the weather. This unequal heating occurs due to earth's rotation, its revolution around the sun and the tilt of the earth's axis with respect to the orbital plane of the earth around the sun.

The wind makes the rain, the sunny skies, everything that has to do with weather. The sun heats the wind, of which makes it go up. Then it cools, so it goes down, and you have wind.
