Your question is ambiguous because you didn't use parentheses. I think you meant:

(2/3)x - (1/4)y

If so start by clearing the denominators. Multiply thru by the least common multiple, which is 12.

(1/12)[12*(2/3)x - 12*(1/4)y]
= (1/12)(8x - 3y)
= (8x - 3y)/12

2/3{12}-1/4{8}=6 you take 2x12and divide it by 3 giving you 8 then you take 1x8 and divide it by 4 giving you 2 then take 8-2 givivg you 6

it will be 1/12(8x-3y)
