My period has been really irregular lately, and not by a matter of weeks, but by months. I'll give a little background.
I started taking the pill Nov. of '05. I stopped taking it about...June (I had been sick for several months, and my doctor suggested I stop the pill, after which I was better).
I had a period, then I had one two months later, and then went a further three months (about) without one before starting again on Tues.
I can't find anything that mentions periods being irregular beyond terms of 21 to 35 days, and I'm slightly worried.
Second question, if I were to go to a doctor, would I talk to just my regular physician, or my OB?
Thank you!

I don't know if this is relevant, but I am married and have been sexually active for a year.

I would discuss this with an OB. There are reasons both easy and serious. The only non medical reason that comes to mind is extreme athletics. The body seems to stop the breeding ability when it is led to believe that major changes in physical demands are being made and also at times if it is led to believe that there is a famine, severe dieting. If you are anorexic that could go to your regular MD who will make a referal. Other possibilities could be taking strange inapropriate dietary supplements.
All the above can have medical repurcussions and it's best to check it out. Think of how relieved you would be if the doc says you're fine, you just need more time to adjust, or even this could have been serious but we caught it in time. Make the appointment and go soon.

I would talk to an OB. Stress can cause your body to react very differently. I used to be very irregular and when I thought I could be pregnant, then I would go 2-3 months without a period, until I took a pregnancy test and it would come up negative and then I would start within a few days. Something mental.

I would talk to my ob/gyn. Periods that skip like that can be cause by illness, stress, and hormonal difficulties. Sometimes coming off the pill disrupts things and it take a few months to get back on track. Poly-Cysitic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) causes extremely irregular periods, sometimes no periods. Losing or gaining lots of weight due to dieting or illness can also cause problems. And last of all some of us never have regular periods.

If you are worried definitely see your doc. Then if it is being delayed by worry, you will be able to relax and that should help things become more regular.

If your period is irregular by months then you need to see your OB and possibly your physician as well.
If your period stops osteoporosis will start almost immediately.
If you do not believe that then check it out with your doctor and he/she will confirm that it is true.
And Liberty is right, excessive exercise can cause your period to be irregular or even stop completely but that is not a good thing.
It's really not a good idea to ignore things like that.
Especially not when it can be easily treated.

Girl, I go at least four months without having my period at times. It just means you're getting more active. The more active you are and the more exercise you get, the less you will have your period.
