Good question. I used to think it was a hideous and cruel idea, however, I have come to the realization and have an open mind to it; it might not be such a bad thing as long as it isn't forced upon anyone. I.E. something expected and pushed upon you from the moment of your birth. It's like the girl said "at least I would not be alone." I don't see anything wrong with it if someone actually wanted you to do that; who better to pick a mate for you then the people who know you best. So many people in so many bad loveless marriages because they chose the wrong person so it couldn't be any worse. As far as "forced" arranged marriages are concerned I think it violates a basic human right to love who you choose.

I personally wouldn't do it to my kids and I'm happy my parents won't make me enter in to an arranged marriage, but they aren't necessarily bad. I would trust my parents to find the best match they could, and plenty of arranged marriages work out.
You can grow to truly love someone with time if you are compatible. That's how matches are made in very small groups. If you were stuck on a deserted islands for two years with only one other person -that person being of your preferred sex- who's basically compatible with you, you would form some kind of bond, very possibly fall in love.

The divorce rate is still pretty high from marrying the person one loves in our society.

You cant help who you love and by marring a person for any other reason other than for love then its wrong. Marriage is special and should be decided by that person and if not whats the point!

I don't like them either. My grandma wants to arrange a marriage between me and this Black guy because she doesn't want me to marry outside my race.

I think I must marry to someone I choose even if I think I love him, it is my right. I would not marry to someone who was chosen by someone else because it would be quitting to myself.
