It means that the person could still see Mrs Nayes because they are able to "see" objects to the side of them as well as to the front.

Usually this means vision of at least 180 degrees encompassing from about mid left ear to mid right or better.

Peripheral in this sentence, is paired with the word vision which basically means the ability to see things out of the corner of your eye. Also known as indirect vision.

Hello there - it means you can still out to the sides of your view. If you were looking down at the page in front you would be able to see movement out to the sides or periphery. Cheers

peripheral is the vision from the corner of your eyes...it's the stuff that's kinda blurry, and that you can only half see

It means you're looking at what's in front of you, but you can still see to the sides, for example being able to see who's walking past you.
