You would be breaking Federal discrimination laws and could be sued. That's your opinion and it's not founded.

If the job applicant has any since he would turn in your company for violating equal opportunity rights. Hypothetical question or not, your company could be sued, and you definitly could be fired as a result of asking that question in the first place. Religion has nothing to do with getting a job that is discrimation.

Your company would be sued for discriminatory practices based on Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 under the US Federal EEO Laws because:

Employment decisions based on stereotypes or assumptions about the abilities, traits, or performance of individuals of a certain sex, race, age, religion, or ethnic group, or individuals with disabilities; And denying employment opportunities to a person because of marriage to, or association with, an individual of a particular race, religion, national origin, or an individual with a disability. Title VII also prohibits discrimination because of participation in schools or places of worship associated with a particular racial, ethnic, or religious group.

See link for further details:http://www.eeoc.gov/abouteeo/overview_practices.html

Unfortunately, companies and HR Representative alike do break these laws daily. I strongly believe all companies should abide and comply with these laws because of the ever-changing diverse workforce we have today.

Working in the field of HR has given me the opportunity to learn, embrace, and welcome diversity. And from my professional and corporate experience, I do also know that individuals in my field are not always up-to-date on the facts and details of these laws.

Also, this is merely my opinion. I am not being judgmental towards others. I can only give specifics on what I have seen and experienced in my day to day interaction with fellow co-workers and Management.

I truly believe that the only thing that can break the stigmas of discrimination is knowledge.

Hope this helps.

God Bless....

You could be sued for discrimination. If you had to ask this question you are apparently not qualified to be doing any hiring.

That would be very stupid on your part. Why insult some one just to make your self feel good and put your company at risk.
