If i have a dream, and i do not think its going to happen, i would get a stable job first then save up enough money to live until i achieve my dream... I have a dream... A dream to be a lawyer or a doctor.... I still have a few years till i go to college... Best of luck pursuing your dreams!
PS. I not only want to be a lawyer but i want to be able to make it to Harvard

I have been in this situation. I went to art school to become an artist and was met by many people who did not believe that that was a "practical" move. But by taking that risk, I found out a lot about myself. It helped me to realize that being an artist was not all that I wanted to be. I also wanted to be a teacher, and I am damn good at it!
By exploring your dreams, God will always be there to help you steer yourself when you need a new or different direction. I still paint and hope to one day teach art to kids at my own studio.

I think it all depends on how impractical your dream is. So many people followed impractical dreams and ended up helping mankind. Others followed their dream and struck it either rich or famous. Just make sure that on your way to fulfilling your dream you can still survive and take care of yourself. And you make the right moves at the right time. Don't jump ahead to quick.

"If this desire existed in you since childhood . . . then that is what you were meant to be."
That is a quote from one of my favorite books where the character is talking to another character about doing all the "right things" in her life and kept putting her dreams aside.

Hmm. I would still try for your dream. This way you can say that you at least tried to accomplish your dream...instead of kicking yourself later for not at least trying it. ; )
