There are two questions here.
The first is whether evolution occurs. If you understand that biological evolution just means "slow change of species over time", then it is almost undisputed that evolution occurs ... even hard core creationists have had to concede that species change slowly over time (and that is all that "evolution" means). They try to reserve the term "microevolution" for this process, to distinguish it from what they call "macroevolution", and what scientists call "speciation." Anyone who understands evolution knows that the only difference between "micro-" and "macro-evolutions" is TIME ... given any natural isolation of a subpopulation of a species, sufficient time will cause enough evolutionary change ("microevolution") to occur to make the temporary genetic isolation, permanent.
The second is whether this process, evolution, explains the diversity of life on our planet. The overwhelming evidence is that the answer is YES.
Or to put it another way ... nobody else has come up with a better explanation for things like the fossil record; the patterns of shared genes between species; molecular evidence (including the molecular clock); vestigial, homologous structures; atavisms; embyology; virology, embryology, and pest control and the development of immunities; biogeography; etc. etc.
In short, evolution is one of the strongest and most successful theories in the history of science.

"evolution from monkeys to humans"? There is no such theory. The theory of human evolution is that monkeys and humans shared a common ancestor, and split from each other about 15 million years ago.

I am a devout christian, and as such, I am supposed to go with the religious people on this and totally not believe in evolution... HOWEVER... the bible says that on the first day...on the second day... and so on... it doesn't say how long those "days" were. To God, a day could be a billion or so years, so who's to say that you can't believe in both? After all it is said that years to us, seem like seconds to God.

Nobody believes humans came from monkeys.
That's just a misunderstanding of what evolution is all about. I'm sorry but I'm so tired of people calling it 'only a theory' simply because they dont understand what a scientific theory is and how it equates to a hypothesis or mere speculation.
Newton's law of gravitation was replaced by Einstein's but nobody fell up in to the sky because Newton's theory was 'wrong' did they?
If you take it on faith that the different creatures were put here by God then no rational argument can reach you. I am sorry if that is the case.

Definitely, yes. I don't see how it could have happened any other way. What, do people just think that there was absolutely nothing and then the next second, poof! every single thing that is currently living on this planet came out of nowhere? It just doesn't make sense, people. And, yes, I do believe in God, but still believe in evolution.

Agreed, Noddarc IF it was made from water and salt. And the evolution of the eye is impossible. if it wasn't made from light sensitive tissue. But things did not have to happen that way, the cell could easily have been formed from a collection of symbiotic bacteria like organisms, the eye developed very slowly from light sensitive pigment cells. I don't have a problem with 'if', love to see 'how' better explained, with examples.

its nearly impossible to deny short-term evolution...
you get sick from some bacteria, the doctor gives you an antibiotic...you take the antibiotic and dont full through with the full treatment leaving the bacteria that were resistant enough to the medication to survive...those survivors reproduce and you have an antibiotic resistant strain of bacteria, evolved from the original bacteria that got you sick in the first place
personally, i believe in evolution as the driving force that has changed and shaped life since it first began however many billions of years ago

Yes, of course it's real. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone to disagree with that statement on the microevolutionary scale, and the principles from the smaller can be easily extracted to the greater. With the DNA analysis of highly disparate species being more in common than different, doubters are left with little quarter in today's modern scientific community.

It's the only solution based on observable and quantifiable evidence. Beliefs are important but that's all they can ever be. One highly contradictory book doesn't qualify in any language as evidence, no matter how much people "want" it to be true.

Please watch Professor Vieth's lectures (DVD) about this. He proves evolution was not possible (with SCIENCE). I was an evolutionist myself (like him), but he's made me a creationist now.
I recommend watching them. Or at least finding a website about it.
