I didn't really have cramping. I started to spot bleed and I went to the ER *my doc. told me to go* There the did a bunch of blood work and a internal ultrasound and regular ultrasound. Then the bleeding got alot heavier. I had to have it confirmed by the doctor. But Heavy bleeding was my big indicator, along with dark tissue in the blood. I had to change my bad about every 15 mins or less.
Sorry if you are having one. I Know how it feels :(
Go to the doctor for sure though.

With the first two (around 6 weeks gestation) I started bleeding, craming bad and then passed a clot. The bleeding was VERY heavy.
With my 18 week m/c (stillbirth) I found out at the OBGYN when there was no heartbeat. He had just died within about a day or so of me going in (was full size for 18 weeks). I had to be induced and give birth.

First it felt like PMS - cramping and bloating. Then a few hours later there was lots and lots of blood. I had to change the pad every 15 - 20 minutes. There was also clumps of light pink/white tissue. After the first few hours of being really heavy, the flow tapered off and it was like a regular period for about a week.

I can only answer from my own experience from having a miscarriage when I was about 1 month along. There was a lot of cramping (excrutiating cramping to the point of almost passing out), dizziness, followed by a very, very heavy period.

I suspected...but wasn't sure until confirmed by a doctor. I had severe cramping, bleeding, with lots of bigger than "normal" clots...darker color. I was about 4 weeks along.
