I have to keep pressing on the reset button countless of times before it starts moving again...

Besides going to the automotive shop, how do I fix it myself?

the plastic screw that moves it and or the gear is wearing out. the only thing you can do is replace it as once you take it apart, it will not go back together again. its made that way to help prevent tampering.

I had the same issue. Bad news -- the entire odometer assembly must be changed, which if you go to sell it, they'll think the mileage is higher than you claim, since you have no proof. Good news -- if you let it go, when you DO go to sell it, you'll egt more money for the car.

My VW GTI had a broken odometer and when I went to sell it, the buyer thought he was getting a car with 75K miles, not the 250 it really had. I got another $300 for the car I would not have, with the high mileage. I wasn't dishonest, I told him it was broken and that I drove about 20 K a year, but he just didn't ask how long it had been broken (since it was a year old -- and that car was 14 when I sold it).
