Well, your doctor is sure thorough with the explanation "did not go well". He or she probably did not get endocervical cells and need to do it again. If it is abnormal they should have said something to that effect and offered a better explanation.

Your wife will have a second pap smear and then they can determine what needs to happen. Sometimes the test just comes back abnormal for no reason, don't panic.

It's a pap smear. What does he mean - that it was abnormal? If so, he should give your wife an explanation as to why and what can be done about it (if anything).

you shouldn't sweat it. the doctor told me my pap smear didn't go well and all it ended up being was a little yeast infection. trust me, if it was really serious, the doctor would instruct your wife to come back in asap. so if the doctor didn't, then it's most likely not life threatening.

Sometimes when they do a pap smear they don't get enough cells to see what they are after, or sometimes it's obscured by blood or maybe a yeast infection. It usually just means they need to redo it to get a clearer result.

OK, it's a pap smear. It's a test for HPV - Human Papillomavirus.
They take a little brush and put it at the cervix to collect cells, they smear it on a microscopic plate and check it for viruses.
So they want to see if she's got the cells, and then, if she does, tell her what to do about it. Don;t sweat it - these guys are good.
