-a = (-1) * a

So if a = 0.5, then:
-a = (-1) * a = (-1) * 0.5 = -0.5

If a = -17, then:
-a = (-1) * a = (-1) * (-17) = 17

And if a = -5, then:
-a = (-1) * a = (-1) * (-5) = 5

Hope this helps!
