we are a part of the natural world, in no way separate from it, and not its "master". the mindset in western culture, especially, that we are "in charge" of nature is wholly false and has led us to the brink of disaster. the egregious nature of the consciousness level of the people who "run" the planet, is a definite clear and present danger to us all. lead by western "religion" and philosophy somehow into hypermaterialism and general delusion, we are headed for destruction. nature based religions, including taoism properly recognize that we are merely one part of a whole, and are superior to none. ;-)

Modalities are modifiers of symptoms. They are descriptions of conditions, times, localities etc. that make a symptom or set of symptoms feel better or worse. In the example “wet weather makes my headache worse”, the headache is the symptom, and the wet weather the modality. Modalities may also be general, and apply to the state of the whole person. An example would be " Wet weather bothers me"
