I am planning to paint my car. I need some help on the preparation process. First of all, how do I properly sand it?

FYI- My car currently has two coats of paint. It has the original and then a different color painted on top of that.

If the instructions are in depth or too long to post, a link to that web page would be great! Any help is appreciated.

Probably the smartest thing to do in this case, would be to strip the paint off the car and start all over again. I say this because if you put a third color on the car, you'll be getting to the point where there is too much paint on the car. When the paint layer(s) are too thick, they expand and contract in the heat of the sun, and cold of winter. When the paint's too thick it will crack because of all this expanding and contracting. You'll spend a long time sanding the old paint off the car. I would chemically strip the car or have it media blasted. Once down to bare metal.....you can properly fix any problem spots, prime it, sand the primer, and paint it. If your using base coat/ clear coat paint, and intend on wet sanding the clear coat for a better shine ( as in show car paint ) make sure you spray enough clear coat so you don't sand through it. Then buff and polish.

First it sounds like you dont exactly know!!! The two coats you are looking at is the Paint and the primer!!! It takes a skill to paint a car. It takes 3-4 coats of primer and depending on the paint, usually 3-4 coats of paint, then clearcoat.

Buy some 80 Grid sanding paper, and just sand away, make sure u have a sanding pad, for u can sand evenly across the car. Are u sanding all the way to the metal ? or just the primer? if just the primer, u want to Wet Sand it instead(when u just pore watter on ur car, and sand while its still wet.). If

What you need to do is buy the video from Paintucation. They outline all of the required equipment, safety, and techniques required to do the job. Go to either Paintucation.com or search on Ebay.
