Year and Model ???

When was the Last time you noticed it ingaging properly VS Now ?
Did you hear something break and now doesn't Spin both sides ?

If its 1959 to 1972 Make sure the Fluid Level is full with
GM Limited Slip lube... ((ONLY))) and try this trick... Only if its from sitting to long in one spot...

Burn out in reverse then Drive forward 1 mile or so Then Burn out forward....

Reason: 1959 to 1962 2 spring Posi unit. 1963 to 1972 4 or 6 spring Limited Slip GM style. If its 3:90 to 4:33 12bolt will still reset
this way...

Also Mopar's from 1961 to 1970 with SureGrip after sitting for long periods of time hang up some times...

Other than that Its Time for you to remove the rear cover an inspect the rear gears and Posi unit and find whats Broken..

1974 to 1977 Posi Junk... Replace
1978 to 1992 Clutch pack unit That gear bolts to.. Inspect
1998 to 2007 I've never had to replace one.(YET)

Lube GM or Lucas Limited Slip Lube only... Or SPec the same Lube... No basic 80w90 ((I even use GM Lube in my RX7 grip))

Good Luck.... Also if you broke something it might be a good time to upgrade the rear gears to a Full Streetable Locker, Like Detriot Locker or Auburn....

Just because it is limited slip doesn't mean that it will spin both tires all the time. You didn't say which rear end you have though, an old rear end could need the diff rebuilt or replaced. good luck.

It sounds to me like the clutches went out in the differential. You will have two choices. Take the pinion out and replace the clutches or go to a junk yard and buy another used rear end.

When does the clunk occur? EDIT: Alright, well that could be a few things. It kind of sounds to me like bad hub bearings. Get your tires off the ground and wiggle them up and down (not back and forth unless you wanted to check for bad ball joints). If there is play, then you will need a new hub assembly on that side. The other things I would check for are bad engine and transmission mounts, and the drive shaft-to pinion flange bolts to be sure they are not loose.

Limited slip uses plates much like a clutch and they wear out over time.they can be rebuilt for a couple hundred bucks.
