Jeez, Bush......

I would call this recent goal by our fearless leader misguided if it weren't for the fact that it's just politics - I don't believe this is a serious proposal to be "guided".

There isn't really much of a plan or a point in establishing a moon base when we don't even yet have more than a minimal presence in Earth orbit. Why put a small expensive "camp"on the moon when we could build a city or 2 in orbit for the same price? Wouldn't THAT be a better return on investment? Why spend many fortunes to haul thousands of tons of hardware from one gravity well to another? Why wouldn't we better plan to stage missions beyond near-Earth from orbit from where it will be so much cheaper to do? I do not get the logic of such a proposal, other than for it's political rhetoric.

Jeez..........

The lunar base would be a staging point for a journey to Mars.
Missions to the moon for the project are expected to begin by 2020,

on Dec. 5 NASA Spokesman Michael J. Braukus said "As of now, there are no firm figures on costs or how long the base will take to build"
