It's taken me 3 years but I think Ive finaly come to terms that my dream will never come true.My dream was becomeing a rockstar. When I was in seventh grade I got my first guitar. I practised and practised and got good...or so I thought. Iam in 10th grade now and Iam just starting to relize that iam only an average guitar player and my dream of becomeing a rockstar is not going to come true. How do I cope with this?

You've got to give yourself credit for not giving up first of all. Second, how do you know that you won't become a rock star yet? You're so young . . . don't give up hope!

Wow, sounds just like me.
Being a rockstar has been my dream since I was 7 or 8. I've always wanted to be a singer (and do some guitaring) in a hard rock band. It's hard because I'm a girl, and even my mom hates girl singers in bands, she just hates girl singing voices. I have the worst shyness ever, I can sing but I can't sing in front of anyone, and I don't even have a band or know anyone who could be in a band with me.

But you know what? You just have to keep that hope. If you really want it, you can achieve it!! The more practice you get, the better you'll get! Lessons would definitely help a lot, but even if you can't take them, think about how many guitarists taught themselves? You can definitely do it!! And you know what, most guitarists out there aren't guitar gods, their average! And if you really suck, you can always get another guitarist and be rhythm! haha just do whatever it takes, don't let that dream die!
To quote Hatebreed:
"So resolve, reassure and push on without fear
Ignite the flame, because only you govern what tomorrow holds
It's inside us all waiting to be awoken
It's more than words describe
This is the spark, let it burn, make it build
It will never be denied

We will let it die, NEVER"
(from the song Never Let It Die)

Best of luck to you!! Just believe =)

I can relate, I got my first guitar in seventh grade, and I've been trying to get good at it...I don't think I'm so good at it, but I still try. Having a dream to be a rockstar is really awesome, and you're still really young...10th grade isn't really that old. In fact (random example...) Ray Toro from My Chemical Romance didn't even start playing the guitar until he was in tenth grade, and so you've had a lot of good practice at a young age. Keep practicing, you will get better, try playing harder songs, and try making up your own songs. Buy books with guitar sheet music that challenges you, because that will help you get better. Don't say that it's not going to come true, when you give up and say that it won't happen, it probably won't, so keep trying, and don't say that it's never going to happen. Keep practicing, you'll get better!

I agree. Never give up hope. You are still young. If you cannot become a rock star, then how about a music teacher. You could mentor other people interested in wanting to become what you wanted to be. You have talent. You have drive. You have not given up. Practice more. Get some guys together and form a band to play around your town. There are many possibilities out there. Just DON'T give up. Good luck!

You are only in 10th grade!! That is too early to determind whether or not your dream will work out. Why don't you invest in some guitar lessons? I think that will be a good start. You've got to give it some time... take lessons and see how it goes from there, but don't quit just yet.

Find another dream. unfortunately our talents aren't always in a MARKETTABLE format. If you work at anything hard enough you will get it. maybe you won't be a star but you can still have music as part of your life. Lif is how you roll with the punches.
