My guinea pig's name is Melody. She is about a year old. I have recently purchased another female guinea pig, but the two of them kept fighting so I've decided to return her. Despite the return, I would like to try to find another guinea pig for Melody, but I don't want to repeat the past. If you have two or more guinea pigs living happily together please tell me how you did it. Thank you!

It should be another female, prefferably slightly younger than the one you have now.

Since your piggy is older and used to living alone, she may not WANT a cage mate.

If you get one, do not immediately put the new one in the older ones cage, but in a separate cage right beside hers. Let them get to know each other on neutral ground.

After they've gotten to "know" each other (over a number of days, I say at least a week and no shorter than 3 days), you can introduce them into the same cage.

When you introduce them, first clean the current cage out WELL. That means wash all the bars and the bottom with a disinfectant, and put in fresh bedding. Clean any toys you may have had as well.

This is to try and trick your current pig into thinking that she's moving somewhere new, and not having a stranger thrust into HER house.

Then put the two of them in the cage together.

It is natural for them to squabble. If there's no blood involved, just let them argue it out. Eventually they should settle down and be friends.

If there is biting and scratching enough to draw blood, remove the new pig and face the fact that Melody might live the live of a single lady, and just make sure that you spend extra time with her to make up for it.

With any animal it is best to remove melody from her cage clean it well. Set it up. Then put both animals in the cage together. They are both introduced to a new environment and are less likely to fight.

By putting her in with melody you put a new guinea pig in her territory and it pissed her off.

Guinea pigs may fight at first (it's a territorial/dominance thing), but if it seems minor just let them live together for a few days. If this doesn't work, go to the store and look for a more docile one (one that will readily submit to the other). If one is territorial, the other one will have to be more of a meeker one.

well its kinda weird cuz if you get a new cage you can probably put two females together but thats bout the only way or you could get a non-agressive male to keep her happy

Adult piggies have to be properly introduced. The cage you have may be way to small. 2 piggies need at least 8square feet of space to live properly.
