I am a huge Godzilla fan, but I never actually went to the trouble of looking this up before....
His name was Tomoyuki Tanaka. He created Godzilla as a message about the effects that nuclear weapons have had on our planet.
He is the Producer of the original Godzilla (1954) film. And it's possible he also had a hand in writing it, but I'm not 100% sure.
I think it is brilliant. Man's greatest weapon, the nuclear bomb, creates a creature that becomes man's greatest fear. Almost every Godzilla movie carries a message that related back to this original idea. Godzilla himself becomes a weapon of the earth to use against mankind. Now that is the definition of "irony!"
Man's careless use of nuclear arms leads to the mutation and creation of Godzilla. He becomes a gigantic nuclear terror, rampaging through Japan, wreaking havoc on civilization. He even carries a Nuclear Blast which he fires from his mouth. The walking embodiment of how foolish humans were to think they could control such forces.
Godzilla's main purpose is to punish humans for their arrogance. And yet, there are only really 2 movies where his only focus is destruction. Other monsters come to invade earth, and Godzilla becomes man's salvation. The mistake of mankind becomes it's only hope for survival! After all of man's weapons fail against these monsters, Godzilla comes to the rescue, driving off the invaders and restoring peace..... but then he stomps a few buildings, just to let us know who's boss.......

Godzilla was the creature in the film by Toho films of Japan.
Saw the original when I was a kid .
